Internet Healthcare Conference 2007; Liveblogging, etc…

Written October 31st, 2007 by Aaron Holbrook

I can’t believe it’s been a year already – but that time of year has come again.

The Greystone/Staywell sponsored Internet Healthcare Conference is once again a hotspot of activity. We’re lucky enough to have it held in Las Vegas this year, and it looks like there are a couple really good speakers/presentations.

For those that aren’t fortunate enough to attend the conference, we’ll be providing (near) real-time feedback of the sessions and speeches. It’ll be light-hearted but candid feedback, and we’re hoping to have most of the sessions covered by our very own WebiScope members.

For everyone that’s attending: I greatly look forward to meeting you all!

And for those who won’t be attending: pour yourself a nice cup of coffee, sit back and enjoy the show! We’re sorry you can’t attend, but we’ll be happy to give you our insight and honest feedback of what’s going down.

For once, what happens in Vegas, won’t stay in Vegas.

Childish vs. Childlike: Web Design for Children’s Hospitals

Written October 24th, 2007 by Thomas Ames

Childlike 2The design of a Web site is often seen by its visitors as a reflection of the organization. But this poses a conundrum: while it’s obviously an organization geared towards the service of children’s health, the Web site seems to appeal more to children than to adults, and that misses the Web audience entirely.

What’s The Purpose of Your Website?

Written October 17th, 2007 by Aaron Holbrook

I’m going to preface this by saying I’m still fairly green when it comes to healthcare (I graduated from college in May of ’06). With that said, I’ve just recently realized how much of an impact I think I can make…

Centegra Health System is a two-hospital sytem about an hour north-west of Chicago. We’re more of a rural hospital, but are constantly growing as more and more people move out of the city and into the suburbs.

Staffing Your Site… Super-Hero Style

Superman Emblem

“So, where’s your cape?”

This was a recent greeting to me upon meeting with a colleague to plan a web page for his department. Having never ventured far into the wonderful web world, he was fascinated with my e-mail address: webmaster@bloomingtonhospital.org. The jokes went on from there, as I am sure many of you have experienced. However, this time it got me thinking about how much I could use a cape and the superhero powers that might come with it. You see, at our organization, just 20 hours of staff time has been allocated for web site management so I often have my hands full.

Accessibility: Is Healthcare Behind?

Written October 3rd, 2007 by Thomas Ames

While we often talk about the latest and greatest in terms of glittery technology like blogging, message boards, podcasts, and the like, we often forget some of the basics. We’ve seen more posts lately about stressing great content over superficial advancements, but we’ve forgotten to touch on something so basic that it could very well ruin our efforts of taking advantage of both content and technology: accessibility.
